Double embryo transfer of a euploid blastocyst after a failed single embryo transfer does not improve live birth rate but significantly increases the risk of twins
Fertility and Sterility Mar 27, 2018
Morin SJ, et al. - The authors, in this work, compared outcomes between euploid SET vs euploid DET in patients who failed their initial attempt at euploid SET. They noted no improvement in the live birth rate with a euploid DET after a failed elective euploid SET, however, it significantly increased the proportion of multiple gestations. They thus recommended counseling patients with a failed euploid SET and multiple blastocysts available for transfer that their pregnancy rates remain high with SET despite their initial failure and that DET of euploid blastocysts unnecessarily increases the likelihood of multiple gestation and associated obstetrical risks.
