Double-blind, placebo-controlled study with alginate suspension for laryngopharyngeal reflux disease
The Laryngoscope May 25, 2018
Tseng WH, et al. - Authors ascertained the effectiveness and safety of liquid alginate suspension for treating laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD). LPRD patients tolerated alginate suspension well. They enrolled a total of 80 patients aged 22 to 72 years. The symptoms and reflux numbers were effectively improved by it but its superiority over placebo was not seen. Presence of a great placebo effect was seen, as observed in previous studies. Experts noted a relatively low and mild incidence of various adverse events from Alginos. Lifestyle modification remained an important factor.
