Double-blind placebo-controlled multicenter phase II trial to evaluate D-methionine in preventing/reducing oral mucositis induced by radiation and chemotherapy for head and neck cancer
Head & Neck Jun 08, 2018
Hamstra DA, et al. - Researchers tested whether oral D-methionine (D-met) reduced mucositis during chemoradiotherapy for head and neck cancer. They performed a placebo-controlled double-blind randomized phase II trial of D-met testing the rate of severe mucositis. On multiple assessments, authors noted that mucositis was decreased with D-met, although the primary endpoint was not met. Decreased oral ulceration and erythema was seen with D-met on planned secondary analysis of a semiquantitative scoring system.
