Dose–response relationship between thyroid stimulating hormone and hypertension risk in euthyroid individuals
Journal of Hypertension Jan 08, 2019
He W, et al. - In this population-based, cross-sectional study, researchers used logistic regression analysis to examine the link between thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and hypertension risk in 2,289 euthyroid individuals without thyroid diseases. They also carried out a dose-response meta-analysis of relevant cohort or cross-sectional studies. In this study, the dose–response relationship between serum TSH level and hypertension risk was strongly evident in euthyroid individuals. Meta-analysis revealed 1.09 OR for hypertension associated with per 1 mIU/l increase in TSH level. A higher risk of developing hypertension was noted among euthyroid individuals with higher normal TSH level vs those with lower normal TSH level. Also, the respective β-coefficient values were 0.78 and 0.45 for SBP and DBP associated with per 1 mIU/l increase in TSH level.
