Doppler sonography of cerebral blood flow for early prognostication after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: DOTAC study
Resuscitation May 31, 2019
Rafi S, et al. - In this prospective study, researchers used early transcranial Doppler sonography (TCD) to assess the neurological prognosis of patients older than 18 years who were successfully resuscitated from an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) with persistent coma after the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in a medical intensive care unit (ICU) and a cardiac ICU of a university teaching hospital. The final analysis included 42 patients: 15 had good and 27 poor neurological outcomes. Outcomes revealed the correlation of data provided by early TCD after ROSC with neurological outcome. In patients resuscitated from OHCA, interventions to improve cerebral perfusion after ROSC could be guided with the use of TCD.
