Dopaminergic tone does not influence pain levels during placebo interventions in patients with chronic neuropathic pain

Pain Jan 29, 2018

Skyt I, et al. - In patients with chronic neuropathic pain, placebo effects have been reported. Researchers here tested if dopamine release contributes to these placebo effects in neuropathic pain. In this study, dopamine appeared influencing the levels of expectancy and desire, yet no evidence for indirect or interaction effects on the placebo effect was evident. Findings thereby suggest no contribution of dopamine to placebo effects in chronic neuropathic pain.
