Donor telomere length and causes of death after unrelated hematopoietic cell transplant in patients with marrow failure
Blood Apr 14, 2018
Gadalla SM, et al. - In view of the suggested association of longer donor leukocyte telomere length (TL) with improved survival after hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) in severe aplastic anemia (SAA) in previous studies, researchers investigated if cell-specific lymphocyte TL are associated with certain post-HCT causes of death using clinical data and biospecimens from the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) database and biorepository. Longer donor TL was shown to be related to reduced infection-related deaths after HCT for SAA. Additionally, a trend toward excess risk of graft-versus-host mortality was noted.
