Dome-shaped macula: A potential protective factor for visual acuity after cataract surgery in patients with high myopia
British Journal of Ophthalmology Jan 08, 2019
Zhu X, et al. - Investigators examined 891 highly myopic cataract eyes of 600 subjects to assess the effect of the dome-shaped macula (DSM) in visual acuity after cataract surgery in high myopic subjects. They observed that 123 eyes had DSM. They also noted a conspicuous association of DSM with extrafoveal retinoschisis (RS) than with other complexities like foveal RS and choroidal neovascularization. An association of better postoperative visual acuity was observed with younger age, male sex, shorter axial length and the presence of DSM. They noted that the incidence of DSM was increased with the degree of anisometropia and was more common in the long eye of individuals with anisometropia.
