Does the impact of a plant-based diet during pregnancy on birth weight differ by ethnicity? A dietary pattern analysis from a prospective Canadian birth cohort alliance

BMJ Open Nov 17, 2017

Zulyniak MA, et al. - Herein, the researchers probed into the upshot of plant-based diet during pregnancy on the birth weight. The findings disclosed a tie-up between maternal consumption of a plant-based diet during pregnancy with birth weight. Such a diet correlated with lower birth weight, reduced odds of an infant born large-for-gestational age (LGA) and increased odds of small-for-gestational age (SGA), among white Europeans. In contrast, among South Asians living in Canada, a plant-based diet exhibited a relationship with increased birth weight.
