Does systemic lupus erythematosus increase the risk of complications from total hip arthroplasty
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders May 24, 2021
Cai Y, Ding Z, Rong X, et al. - A retrospective study was conducted to reassess the risks from total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) under the management model of enhanced recovery after surgery. Researchers extracted data from the medical record system of the department. They used the chi-square test and t-test for comparison. The results demonstrate that in THA, well-controlled and well-managed SLE will not increase the risk of complications, but can increase the amount of perioperative blood loss. Thus, in SLE patients, perioperative blood management is still essential.
