Afolabi A, et al. - Previous studies showed that the presence of spotty calcification is a marker of vulnerable plaque. Herein, it was investigated if spotty calcification decreases the response of plaque progression to statin therapy. Findings demonstrated the efficacy of statin therapy for plaque stabilization in plaques with and without spotty calcification. Intensive statin afforded more benefit, relative to moderate statin therapy, in patients with spotty calcification.
