Does serum vitamin D level affect the association between cardiovascular health and cognition? Results of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Etiology Research Center (CMERC) study
European Journal of Neurology Sep 08, 2020
Jeon YJ, et al. - In this cross‐sectional study, researchers intended to determine if there is a connection between cardiovascular health (CVH) and cognitive function according to vitamin D level in the middle‐aged Korean population. They involved 840 men and 1,811 women (mean age, 57.2 years) from the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Etiology Research Center study baseline enrollment (2013 to 2018). Cognitive function was assessed utilizing the Mini‐Mental State Estimation for dementia screening (MMSE‐DS), and serum 25‐hydroxyvitamin D level was measured. No significant link was found between a high Life’s Simple 7 score and MMSE‐DS score in the adjusted generalized linear regression models. The findings indicate that vitamin D, particularly in men, is an effect modifier in the relationship between CVH and cognition.
