Does prophylactic ibuprofen after surgical atrial septal defect repair decrease the rate of post-pericardiotomy syndrome?
Pediatric Cardiology Jun 20, 2018
Rabinowitz EJ, et al. - Researchers examined the effect of prophylactic treatment with ibuprofen on the development and severity of post-pericardiotomy syndrome (PPS) following surgical atrial septal defect (ASD) closure, with special attention to secundum-type ASDs. From 1/2007 to 7/2017, they retrospectively reviewed clinical and operative data of all surgical ASD repairs in the center. No difference was found in the incidence of PPS in ibuprofen prescribed individuals as compared to those who were not. It was observed that prophylactic ibuprofen prescription following surgical ASD repair did not decrease the rate of PPS in the cohort.
