Brennan GT, et al. - Researchers evaluated whether or not preoperative enteral nutrition (EN) or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) decreases postoperative complications in crohn’s disease (CD) patients. Postoperative complications were seen t6o be reduced in CD patients with preoperative nutrition supplementation. Particularly, they noted the superiority of EN in CD patients before undergoing surgery to the standard of care without nutrition support with a number needed to treat of 2. They noted a trend toward TPN being superior to standard of care without nutrition support, but this trend did not reach statistical significance.
