Does painless rectal bleeding equate to a colonic polyp?

Campbell AM, et al. - This research contemplated if a rectal polyp served as the probable diagnosis in the case of patients presenting with Âpainless rectal bleedingÂ, among children undergoing endoscopy. The yielded data affirmed that the most common symptom of rectal polyps was painless rectal bleeding. Nonetheless, only one in five patients with this clinical history was found to have a rectal polyp at endoscopy. Greater polyp pickup rate (28%) was reported at endoscopy when a history of both rectal bleeding and mucous per rectum was found. This information possibly assisted in counseling the parents preoperatively.
