Does overlapping surgery result in worse surgical outcomes? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Gartland RM, et al. - Researchers evaluated whether overlapping surgery influence 30-day mortality, morbidity, and length of surgery via performing a systematic literature yielding all relevant studies examining outcomes of overlapping vs non-overlapping surgery as of March 2018. As per the outcomes of this meta-analysis, patients who underwent overlapping vs non-overlapping surgery display no significant differences in 30-day mortality or overall morbidity. The overlapping surgery group indicated a small statistically significant increase in length of surgery.
