Does lymph node status influence adjuvant therapy decision-making in women 70 years of age or older with clinically node negative hormone receptor positive breast cancer?
The American Journal of Surgery Oct 04, 2017
Chagpar AB, et al. - Researchers performed statistical analyses to determine the association of lymph node (LN) evaluation with adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy in clinically (c) lymph node (LN) negative (-), hormone receptor (HR) + breast cancer patients in the National Cancer Database. In this study of 193,728 patients who were between the ages of 70 and 90 when they were diagnosed with clinically LN-, HR + invasive breast cancer, it was observed that 15% were LN+, and that LN status was markedly associated with adjuvant systemic and radiation therapy administration independent of other factors including age, tumor size, grade and comorbidities.
