Does loneliness contribute to mild cognitive impairment and dementia? A systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal studies
Ageing Research Reviews Mar 28, 2019
Lara E, et al. - In order to examine the correlations between loneliness, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and dementia, researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis of 10 longitudinal studies (n=37,339) that reported on these associations. According to findings, loneliness is positively linked to increased dementia risk. Limited evidence has suggested a potential loneliness effect on MCI. An additional understanding of the deleterious effects of loneliness on MCI and dementia can help design environmental and psychological interventions to prevent or delay the onset of these neuropsychiatric conditions.
