Does goal-directed haemodynamic and fluid therapy improve peri-operative outcomes?: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Anaesthesiology Jun 13, 2018
Chong MA, et al. - Researchers investigated whether peri-operative goal-directed therapy can be of benefit in reducing mortality and morbidity in adult surgical patients. They analyzed data from studies identified from Medline, Embase and the Cochrane Library. Eligible studies included randomised controlled trials comparing benefits of goal-directed therapy or standard care in adult surgical patients. Trauma patients and parturients were excluded. Low to very low quality of evidence showed that reduced morbidity and mortality were provided by peri-operative modern goal-directed therapy. Data also revealed much clinical heterogeneity among the goal-directed therapy devices and protocols.
