Does fentanyl or remifentanil provide better postoperative recovery after laparoscopic surgery?: A randomized controlled trial
BMC Anesthesiology Jul 18, 2018
Asakura A, et al. - In this prospective, randomized, patient and investigator-blinded, controlled, clinical trial, researchers compared fentanyl-based anesthesia to remifentanil-based anesthesia with respect to patients’ postoperative quality of recovery (QoR) after laparoscopic surgery using the QoR 40 questionnaire (QoR-40). They focused on the global QoR-40 at 24 h after surgery between 70 patients who were randomized to either fentanyl or remifentanil based anesthesia groups. They found that the fentanyl group had the global QoR which was higher by 20 points relative to that observed in the remifentanil group. They observed that the groups did not differ significantly.
