Does early chemotherapy improve survival in advanced endometrial cancer?
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Nov 03, 2019
Boothe D, et al. - Researchers investigated if improved overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) could be achieved with early chemotherapy in patients with endometrial cancer. They used the SEER-Medicare database to identify 597 endometrial cancer patients with median age 72 years (85% of patients were white) who had received adjuvant chemotherapy (aCT) and adjuvant radiation therapy (aRT). Taking aCT prior to aRT, with or without additional aCT (“sandwich” regimens) defined early chemotherapy. Among endometrial patients receiving early chemotherapy, findings revealed no differences in OS or CSS. However, prolonged survival was reported in correlation with the number of chemotherapy cycles; improved OS was experienced in relation to receiving 4 to 6, and ≥ 7 cycles of chemotherapy vs 1 to 3 cycles.
