Does delayed esophagectomy after endoscopic resection affect outcomes in patients with stage T1 esophageal cancer? A propensity score-based analysis
Surgical Endoscopy Oct 04, 2017
Wang S, et al. - In this propensity score-based analysis, researchers investigate whether delaying esophagectomy by performing and assessing the success of endoscopic resection (ER) affects outcomes as compared with immediate esophagectomy without ER. Additionally, they assess the long-term survival after sequential ER and esophagectomy. Treatment of stage T1 esophageal cancer with ER prior to esophagectomy seemed not increasing the difficulty of performing esophagectomy or the incidence of postoperative complications and were not affecting survival after esophagectomy. As per results, for patients with stage T1 cancer, ER can be recommended even if esophagectomy is warranted eventually.
