Journal of Affective Disorders | Mar 10, 2018
Morgan JA, et al. - Given the positive effect of regular exercise on depressive symptoms (DS) and major depressive disorder (MDD) among adults, researchers here aimed at assessing the clinical effects of ceasing exercise in depression. In healthy adults, ceasing regular exercise increases DS, with greater DS in females than males. In contrast to the cytokine/inflammatory hypothesis of depression, DS was observed to be correlated with reduced CRP and interleukin 6 (IL6) and without increased tumour necrosis factor alpha.
