Does a two-year period of orthokeratology lead to changes in the endothelial morphology of children?

Contact Lens and Anterior Eye Oct 15, 2017

Cheung SW, et al. - The variations in endothelial morphology in the central and superior cornea underwent a comparative analysis, among individuals wearing single-vision spectacles and orthokeratology lenses over two years. The existence of variations in endothelial morphology was affirmed in this research, among Chinese children aged 6–12 years. A difference was noted in the morphological response to normal ageing between the two corneal locations. This was due to the occurrence of the reduction in cell density and polymegathism only in the central cornea. Pleomorphism, on the other hand, was found in both locations. Orthokeratology lens wear exerted minimal impact on the developmental changes in endothelial morphology.
