Does a less intensive surveillance protocol affect the survival of patients after treatment of a sarcoma of the limb?: Updated results of the randomized TOSS study
The Bone & Joint Journal Feb 08, 2018
Puri A, et al. - The goal of this research was to determine if a less intensive follow-up protocol would not be inferior to a conventional follow-up protocol, with regard to the overall survival, in patients who underwent surgery for sarcoma of the limb. In terms of the frequency of visits and mode of imaging, the overall survival of patients who were treated for a sarcoma of the limb was not inferior to those followed up with a less intensive regimen when compared to a more intensive protocol. Most recurrences would be detected by chest radiograph (CXR) at six-monthly intervals and patient education regarding an examination of the site of the surgery, without deleterious effects on the eventual outcome.
