Do selected blood inflammatory markers combined with radiological features predict proliferation index in glioma patients?

World Neurosurgery Jul 01, 2018

Weng Y, et al. - Whether or not proliferation potency in glioma patients could be predicted by peripheral blood inflammatory markers combined with radiological features was investigated. In this retrospective review of 183 patients primarily diagnosed with glioma, a high association of proliferation index with tumor grade was noted, with a gradually increasing tendency. Cutoff value of Ki67 > 9% was predictive of high-grade glioma. High vs low grade group demonstrated significantly higher neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio. Contrast enhancement was more frequently observed in high grade glioma vs low grade glioma, while no differences in peritumor edema were noted. Higher proliferation rate was independently predicted by age of > 43 yrs, higher NLR of > 3.68 combined with positive contrast enhancement.
