Do liposomal bupivacaine infiltration and interscalene nerve block provide similar pain relief after total shoulder arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Pain Research Sep 28, 2018
Sun H, et al. - In this meta-analysis, researchers evaluated the effectiveness and safety of liposomal bupivacaine (LB)-based infiltration vs interscalene nerve block (INB) for pain management following total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA). On analyzing seven studies with 707 patients, they recognized that after TSA, excellent analgesic effects were achieved within 4 hours with INB, whereas a significantly lower rate of complications was observed among patients treated with LB infiltration. In general, both approaches were comparable in terms of providing overall pain relief and opioid consumption after TSA, with a similar length of hospital stay.
