DNA methylation-mediated silencing of miR-204 is a potential prognostic marker for papillary thyroid carcinoma
Cancer Management and Research Feb 18, 2019
Xia F, et al. - Researchers performed bioinformatics analyses to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) tumorigenesis and progression, focusing on underlying molecular mechanisms of miR-204 involved in PTC. They performed microRNA (miRNA) microarray analysis to reveal miRNA expression patterns of PTC. For validation, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data were used. They identified 181 miRNAs (89 downregulated and 92 upregulated miRNAs) which were differentially expressed between PTC and normal tissues. Based on the findings, a potential diagnostic biomarker of PTC could be promoter DNA methylation-silenced miR-204. By involvement in many tumor-related pathways, miR-204 downregulation could play an important role in PTC. There is a need for further validating novel target genes and putative mechanisms of miR-204 in PTC.
