Disturbed desmoglein-2 in the intercalated disc of pediatric patients with dilated cardiomyopathy
Human Pathology Aug 11, 2017
Kessler EL, et al. – A demonstration was carried out of the subcellular alterations in children diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) compared to age–matched controls. It was determined that the composition of the intercalated disc (ID) in pediatric DCM patients was similar to controls, except for the localization of desmoglein–2 and presence of severe fibrosis. Hence, the architecture of desmosomes appeared to be already disturbed in the early stages of DCM. The yielded data contributed to the understanding of pediatric DCM.
