Distinguishing characteristics of headache in nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain Apr 09, 2018
Grory BM, et al. - Given that subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a life-threatening emergency that is frequently missed due to its varied and often subtle presentation, researchers undertook a prospective, observational study at a tertiary academic medical center to examine the clinical characteristics of the presenting headache in SAH. This is the first study that sought for the detailed clinical characteristics of the presenting headache in SAH. Notable distinguishing features on history included occipital location, “stabbing” quality, presence of prior headache, and associated meningismus. Findings thereby indicate that the clinical features of headache with SAH are distinct from those associated with other headache syndromes.
