Distinct clinical features and outcomes in motor neuron disease associated with behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia
Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders Jun 14, 2018
Cortés-Vicente E, et al. - Researchers performed a descriptive and comparative data analysis to determine the motor phenotype and outcome in a group of patients diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in this observational retrospective clinical study. Twenty-two patients with MND-FTD were recruited. A distinctive motor pattern characterized by weakness and atrophy in distal upper limb muscles and dysphagia with no or little spreading to other regions was displayed frequently by the MND-FTD patients. Findings suggested that these features could help to define specific subgroups of patients, which was important in clinical management, outcome, and research.
