Distal femur replacement vs surgical fixation for the treatment of geriatric distal femur fractures: A systematic review
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Dec 24, 2020
Salazar BP, Babian AR, DeBaun MR, et al. - Both primary distal femur replacement (DFR) and surgical fixation (SF) are viable treatment options for the management of geriatric distal femur fractures, researchers here compared patient outcomes after these treatment strategies. Searching PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases, they identified two studies providing Level II or III evidence and 28 studies providing Level IV evidence. Findings revealed similar overall complication rates in correlation with SF and DFR for the treatment of geriatric distal femur fractures. Given the available evidence, they could not generate any strong conclusion on the comparative effectiveness between the 2 treatments.
