Disposable chlorine dioxide wipes for high-level disinfection in the ENT department: A systematic review
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Feb 12, 2020
Tofanelli M, et al. - Given that the Tristel Trio Wipes system (TTWS) is a manual reprocessing method based on chlorine dioxide that has lately emerged in the ENT department, researchers conducted this systematic review to test the safety and effectiveness of this method. For all the studies on TTWS or one of its components, PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases have been explored. The review included 10 articles. Findings suggested that TTWS guaranteed disinfection at a high level in laboratory and clinical settings. Despite manual systems drawbacks, TTWS has proven to be faster than automated endoscope reprocessing and safe for patients and health-care workers. The authors concluded that for nasopharyngoscopes, TTWS could be a valid, safe and fast high-level disinfection method with reasonable costs for medium-low reprocessing volumes.
