Disparities in low-vision device use among older US Medicare recipients
JAMA Dec 20, 2018
Choi S, et al. - Authors analyzed 3058 subjects who were Medicare beneficiaries (65 years and older) with self-reported vision impairment under cross-sectional population-based survey to ascertain the existence of sociodemographic disparities in the use of low-vision services by Medicare beneficiaries. They observed Hispanic people and candidates from other races/ethnicities were significantly less likely to report using low-vision devices than white individuals in a model adjusted for ocular diagnosis whereas, in the model not adjusted for ocular diagnoses, black individuals were also significantly less likely to report using low-vision devices suggesting no sign of racial/ethnic variations.
