Disease trajectories for hidradenitis suppurativa in the Danish population
JAMA Jul 17, 2020
Andersen RK, Jørgensen IF, Reguant R, et al. - Using population-wide disease registry data, researchers conducted this retrospective registry-based cohort study to assess and characterize disease trajectories in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Fourteen thousand four hundred eighty-eight Danish inhabitants were diagnosed with HS or met diagnostic criteria identified through surgical procedure codes. In total, 11,929 individuals have been identified by ICD-10 diagnosis codes (8,392 [70.3%] female; mean [SD] age, 37.72 [13.01] years), and 2,791 were identified by procedural codes (1,686 [60.4%] female; mean [SD] age, 37.38 [15.83]). The results indicate that patients with newly diagnosed HS may experience a high incidence of manifest type 1 diabetes and consequently high risk of acute myocardial infarction, pneumonia, and COPD.
