Disease-related microstructural differences in the brain in females with provoked vestibulodynia
The Journal of Pain Feb 08, 2018
Gupta A, et al. - Researchers herein searched for the alterations in the subvoxel, microstructural organization within tissues in provoked vestibulodynia (PVD) compared to healthy controls (HCs) and a disease control group (irritable bowel syndrome, IBS). They recognized microstructural alterations in fibers associated with sensorimotor integration and pain processing in PVD. Increased vulvar pain and muscle tenderness were observed in association with alterations in PVD. Differences between chronic overlapping pain syndromes could be related to sensorimotor-thalamic-brainstem thalamic connectivity.
