Disease-based observation cohort study of patients with thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm
Journal of Vascular Surgery Aug 25, 2018
Kang C, et al. - Via screening an academic multihospital institutional database, researchers described a disease-based cohort of patients with thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs). The screening was performed by diagnosis codes for TAAA from 2009 to 2017 using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision and Tenth Revision. As per outcomes, despite access to all treatment options, nearly half of patients with TAAA do not undergo repair. Hence indicating that data from surgical case series are achieved in highly selected cohorts and do not reflect overall outcomes. Among those receiving intervention, different techniques in appropriately selected patients achieved similar outcomes. Compared with nonoperative patients, all operative groups except the hybrid group showed survival benefit during a 30-month period.
