Direct medical costs in the preceding, event and subsequent years of first severe hypoglycaemia requiring hospital transfer: A population-based cohort study
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Mar 20, 2019
Wong CKH, et al. – Researchers assessed healthcare services use and the direct medical costs accrued by patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) in the year of first severe hypoglycemia (SH), the years before, and after event year. Between 2006 and 2013, the investigators recruited all DM adults managed in the primary care setting from the Hong Kong Hospital Authority. They discovered that incremental costs of SH vs matched control in the event year and the preceding year were $10,873 USD and $3,974 USD. According to findings, in the event year and particularly in the previous year, SH was related to excessive hospitalization admission rates and direct medical costs vs patients without SH.
