Direct comparison of US and MR elastography for staging liver fibrosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Dec 19, 2020
Imajo K, Honda Y, Kobayashi T, et al. - In nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the diagnostic abilities of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE), vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE), and two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) were directly compared. Researchers enrolled a total of 231 patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD. Researchers examined intra- and inter-observer reproducibility applying intraclass correlation coefficient in a sub-group of 70 participants, in whom liver stiffness measurement was conducted by an elastography expert and an ultrasound expert who was an elastography trainee on the same day. The evidence demonstrated that, for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis, MRE, VCTE, and 2D-SWE had excellent accuracy. The highest diagnostic accuracy was found by MRE for stage 4 detection and intra- and inter-observer reproducibility.
