Direct axillary cannulation with open Seldinger-guided technique: Is it safe?
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Nov 29, 2017
Carino D, et al. - Researchers, in this work, presented their experience with direct axillary cannulation with open Seldinger-guided technique, evaluating its safety and efficacy. Results suggested that for axillary artery cannulation, the open Seldinger-guided technique was safe and effective. In view of its speed and simplicity, this technique was highly recommended. The vessel was not snared, thereby preserving distal arterial flow and minimizing the risk of acute limb ischaemia. Furthermore, the risk of local complications was reduced with the limited manipulation of the artery.
