Diminished cardiac performance and left ventricular dimensions in neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia
Pediatric Cardiology Mar 17, 2018
Altit G, et al. - Authors undertook an examination of the early neonatal biventricular function and performance in patients with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) by appraising early post-natal echocardiography (ECHO) measurements and contrasting them to normal term newborns. Evidence of biventricular dysfunction and decreased cardiac output was revealed among CDH newborns. Data displayed that abnormal function could serve as a factor in the non-response to pulmonary arterial vasodilators in CDH patients. Hence, a necessity arose for a two-pronged management strategy aimed at improving cardiac function and for reducing pulmonary artery pressure in CDH newborns.
