Dilatation of the aorta in children with advanced chronic kidney disease

Pediatric Nephrology Jan 21, 2021

Quennelle S, Ovaert C, Cailliez M, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for determining the cardiovascular impact of the uremic condition in a pediatric population with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). Thirty-nine consecutive advanced CKD patients who underwent echocardiographic evaluation were included from 2016 to 2018. There was a set of demographic, clinical, biological, and echocardiographic data. Data reported that the mean echocardiographic exam age was 9.7 ± 4.6 years. They observed a high prevalence of ascending aorta dilatation in children with advanced CKD, in addition to classical and predictable CKD-related abnormalities. The related factors were hypertension, arteriovenous fistula, and hemodialysis.
