Digital breast tomosynthesis for breast cancer detection: A diagnostic test accuracy systematic review and meta-analysis
European Radiology Jan 10, 2020
Alabousi M, Zha N, Salameh JP, et al. - Researchers performed a diagnostic test accuracy systematic review and meta-analysis contrasting digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), combined DBT and digital mammography (DM), and DM alone for breast cancer detection in average-risk women. They explored MEDLINE and EMBASE until September 2018 and involved comparative design studies reporting on the diagnostic efficiency of DBT and/or DM for breast cancer detection. A total of 488,099 individuals were reported in 38 studies. Low risk of bias was reported in 11 studies. It was found that DBT was more sensitive in contrast with DM, while the addition of DM to DBT gives no additional diagnostic advantage. Moreover, the consideration of these outcomes in breast cancer imaging guidelines was suggested.
