Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) with apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mapping as a quantitative imaging biomarker for prediction of immunohistochemical receptor status, proliferation rate, and molecular subtypes of breast cancer
Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Mar 05, 2019
Horvat JV, et al. - In invasive breast cancer, researchers ascertained if receptor status, proliferation rate, and molecular subtype can be predicted by different apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) metrics. In this retrospective study, two readers drew a region of interest on the whole tumor (WTu) and its darkest part (DpTu) on ADC maps independently. Both readers had significantly different ADC values for estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) status. Findings suggested that maximum WTu ADC values can be used to distinguish luminal from other breast cancer molecular subtypes. For both readers, other approaches and metrics for ADC measurement were not significantly different in determining immunohistochemical status, molecular subtype, and Ki-67 proliferation rate.
