Diffusion tensor imaging of tibial and common peroneal nerves in patients with Guillain–Barre syndrome: A feasibility study
Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Apr 17, 2019
Cao J, et al. - In assessing peripheral nerve disorders in Guillain–Barre syndrome (GBS) patients, researchers examined the feasibility of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). In the GBS group, the fractional anisotropy (FA) and axial diffusion (AD) values for tibial nerve (TN) and common peroneal nerve (CPN) were significantly lower and the values for apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and radial diffusion (RD) were higher than those in the controls. The values of FA and AD were positively correlated with the values of ADC and RD were negatively correlated with the amplitude of MCV and motor nerve conduction. In this case-control study involving 20 GBS subjects and 16 healthy volunteers, DTI quantitative parameters could assess peripheral nerve disorders in GBS patients. A moderate correlation between DTI and parameters of electrophysiology was observed.
