Diffusion tensor imaging for evaluation of lumbar intervertebral discs in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: A preliminary prospective study

Clinical Radiology Jul 12, 2018

Wang D, et al. - A preliminary prospective study was conducted to assess the degeneration of intervertebral discs (IVDs) in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). For this analysis, 43 AIS patients and 12 healthy volunteers (HC) underwent 3 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) including DTI sequences. In AIS patients even without visible signs on T2-weighted images, DTI showed degeneration of lumbar IVDs. Researchers reported that lumbar IVDs in AIS patients reduced as a whole and L4-5 IVDs were more prone to degenerate. Findings suggested that DTT could show the annulus fibrousus visually.
