Differing pattern of influenza vaccination uptake in nurses between clinical and long term care facilities setting, 2014–2018
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Jul 19, 2018
Wong NS, et al. - The influenza vaccination pattern was compared between clinical and long-term care facilities (LTCF) nurses. Researchers administered an annual online survey on nurses after onset of Winter influenza season in Hong Kong between 2014 and 2018. As per outcomes, LTCF nurses displayed a low vaccination coverage. In clinical but not in LTCF nurses, male gender, student nurses and infrequent patient contacts were significantly associated with vaccination. LTCF nurses in a higher proportion were not vaccinated as it was not a work requirement. They recommend developing strategies for making vaccines easily accessible to nurses in LTCF while prioritizing nurses with frequent patient contacts for scaling up vaccination.
