Differential presentation in acuity and outcomes based on socioeconomic status in patients who undergo thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Sep 05, 2020
Chatterjee S, LeMaire SA, Amarasekara HS, et al. - Researchers examined if and how socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with survival outcomes after thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) repair retrospectively reviewing the prospectively collected data from 981 TAAA repairs performed on domestic (noninternational) patients between 2006 and 2016. Operative mortality of 9% (n = 76) was observed among patients. They observed greater acuity of presentation in patients of low SES. However, outcomes suggest apparently no influence of SES differences on operative mortality rates. In addition, there was no association of SES with a difference in mid-term survival.
