Rose DR, et al. - Whether there are biological signatures in terms of immune dysfunction and microbiota composition in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) with gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, was investigated. In ASD children with GI symptoms, an imbalance was noted in the immune response, possibly impacted by or influencing metagenomic alterations. Furthermore, these subjects may tend to have impaired gut barrier function which may contribute to their symptoms and clinical outcome.
