Differential expression of immune related genes in high-grade ovarian serous carcinoma
Gynecologic Oncology Mar 09, 2020
Siamakpour-Reihani S, Cobb LP, Jiang C, et al. - Researchers undertook this retrospective analysis to find out new immunologic targets and biomarkers related to overall survival (OS) in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC). For this purpose, they examined microarray data from 51 HGSC specimens. A panel of 183 immune/inflammatory response related genes associated with 279 probe sets was created a priori and screened. They assessed the TCGA Ovarian dataset and five GSE publicly available HGSC datasets in order to obtain external validation. In TCGA, consistent with the outcomes from the Duke discovery cohort, high expression of one probe (IL6R) showed a consistent significance and concordant link with higher expression in long-term HGSC survivors and improved OS in the TCGA dataset. Considering higher expression noted in long-term survivors as well as link with improved survival in advanced HGSC, it may be justified to assess IL6R expression. Further inquiry of other candidate genes may be of value to improve immuno-oncology drug discovery.
